Shorts, regular videos and the length limit
Shorts are the easiest thing to download from YouTube: they're short, vertical and come with their sound baked in. Copy the link with the Share button in the YouTube app, which sits on the right side of a Short, or grab the address from your browser. Shorts links, regular youtube.com links and short youtu.be links all work. You can download YouTube videos that aren't Shorts too, with one caveat: length. Long videos may hit the length limit and fail to download, so don't expect full movies or hours-long podcasts to come through. If a file would be bigger than about 50 MB, the video is saved at a lower resolution so that it fits. Short clips are the sweet spot.
Only public videos can be downloaded; private and deleted ones are out of reach. If a link won't work, check that it leads to a specific video rather than a channel or a playlist. A short ad plays before each download, and that's what keeps the site free.
